At Gracyn's birthday party,I Iearned that this week is my Thai friend Yaa's birthday. Since I had lots of leftover cake icing, I decided to make her a cake. I quickly made a cake this evening and decided to take it by her house tonight since I understood that today is her birthday. I walked over with cake in hand and saw her out in her driveway. I called out to her and then quickly lit the candles. She was shocked. She closed her eyes for wish making purposes and blew out the candles. We went inside to cut the cake together. Before we could do that though, we had to relight the candles so she could get a picture of the cake and of her blowing out the candles. In our conversation, I realized that I got her birth date wrong and it is actually on August 7th. However, since we are going on vacation, it worked out fine to give her a pre-birthday treat. Yaa was pretty overcome because she told me that she has never had her own birthday cake before! I couldn't believe it. She was definately childlike in receiving her cake. It was a honor to be the first person to ever give her a birthday cake.
